This 20th century piece of 3 dimensional machinery is know as the clapper which was a wooden instrument that was rung instead of a bell in the whole week. Its purpose was to grab the attention of people with its continues clapping sound as with the name. It really inspired me due to its symmetrical design which is very visually pleasing.

These to Antique Vases from the 19th century unfortunately had no information about them written but they speak for themselves. Both perfectly symmetrical and have a story that is shown to the viewer the more you turn it around. They both have a remarkable amount of detail on them even on the bronze handles on both sides of the vases. The first one has an inscription written and not as much art is drawn around it.The sense of vintageness the paintings and colours on the vases give really inspire me because of the warm and dirty colours.
This chair is part of a set which was also done in the 19th century. It displays great craftsmanship with artistic visuals in the back rest of the chair and how well made it is to still be in this good condition. It shows the beginning of the wood bending into forms instead of welding which inspired my idea generation mural to use metal bending.

Here we can see a mid 20th century dress. It's made from cotton and the blue leaf like patterns that are on it are printed. It looks like late summer wear due to the short sleeves and thin materials chosen and even the color and pattern choice give of that effect. The cool blue color on the leaves are really complementary to the white background and it gives that vintage look as well. The colors used are very complimentary and i really like to use them in my mural sketches.

Here is another dress from the early 20th century. This one on the other hand is for the winter due to its thicker material warmer and dull colors and the fact that it longer is also a factor. Its made from brocaded silk and satin and lace. Its a lot more detailed in the collar area and shows a lot more technique it also like the other one is printed and give of that vintage look.
Task 2: Design Movements
Streamline Moderne
Streamline was one of the most striking movements that started in the in the early 20th century from 1930 to 1950.Its beautiful aerodynamic shapes and teardrop like forms which is the optimum form for reducing air because of how it allows air to slip over it were all reasons why it was such a popular movement.
The main use apart from aesthetic was to reduce the amount of resistance against mediums whilst traveling in water or air. This type of style dominated America from1930s to the 1950s. Streamlining originated from Art Deco which was then simplified and infused with a sense of dynamism that gave it huge commercial appeal.

It became such a huge part in modern design that it moved from product to product and influenced its functionality this was apparent in cars and planes
This is one of the early streamlined streamlining design which is a perfect example that showcases how they crafted cars in that era.
This design was also widely incorporated to also house hold appliances which gave the kick start to more modernised houses. It was also used in the industrial part of design which glamorised it making it more elegant and stylish which is more visually pleasing so it created a better atmosphere.
Functionality was neglected and had to make room for aesthetic this was because products were going for what the consumers wanted which was the main goal. This created a rivalry between products which lead to more products on the market for the consumer to choose from.Bauhaus Design Movement.
Bauhaus was one of the most definitive design movements in the modern age. The world Bauhaus loosely translated from German means house of construction or school of building.
The Bauhaus movement started in 1919 when Walter Gropius opened a school with aim to pave the gape between art and industry by combining crafts and fine arts.
Bauhaus was a new type of art school were it offered many art and design discipline. They believed in variety unlike the European art schools. It though student how to embrace technology and how mass production was done.
Excluding the Bauhaus Movement, fine arts such as design and architecture were both thought to be classified as a higher esteem than craftsmanship like woodworking and painting.
Gropius wanted that all craft including architecture, geometric designs and art could all be massed produced together.
At that time Germany was a very conservative place and they didn't like change so they didn't allow for it to go any further but besides the fact that it closed it was the most celebrated art school in the world.
All of these innovations are all cherished due to the simplistic and aesthetically pleasing visuals and how they used to manipulate materials into forms which at that time was unheard of. Even the uniqueness of it alone is enough for it to be world renowned.
Thier logic behind these innovations was that they thought the world had to be fundamentally rethought, Unnecessary ornamentation was out, minimalism was in and that good design only requires simplicity and geometric purity as seen in the image above.
The Cantileverd chair which was designed by Marcel Breuer which was inspired by the steel tubing in his bicycle which lead to the first lightweight mass produced chair.
Bauhaus nowadays is seen everywhere in furniture, signs, posters, building, graphic design. The importance of this movement was crucial it even influenced how the skyline looks like because of the buildings. The world wouldn't have been the same if it wasn't for does innovative people which wanted to show some colour on the dull canvas which was the world.
